Corpus Christi Chosen for Green Technologies Conference

The 6th Annual 2014 IEEE Green Technologies will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas at the Corpus Christi Omni Hotel April 3-4, 2014.

Sponsored by IEEE USA, IEEE Region 5, and IEEE Corpus Christi Section, and commonly referred to as IEEE GreenTech, the purpose of the Conference is to solicit unpublished, original papers on the field of Green Technology, and offer presentations, workshops, and invited talks in related fields.

This year’s theme is SOW the Seeds of our Future.  The theme, which is an acronym for Solar, Ocean, and Wind, focuses on green technology that is deployed in coastal and marine environments, although any papers on Clean Technology, Green Technology, and Renewable Energy will be considered.  This is a relevant theme for the location, considering it is situated on the Gulf Coast.

Topics to be discussed at this year’s conference include, but will not be limited to:

•Ocean/Tidal/Wind/Solar/Geothermal Energy Conversion

•Green Energy Generation and Storage

•Green Energy Transmission and Distribution, Smartgrid

•Biomass, Bio-Fuel as Green Energy

•Green Buildings

•Green Energy Policies, Management and Control

•Green Energy Pedagogy and Curricula

Keynote and Invited Speakers include:

•Mehrdad (Mark) Ehsani, Ph. D., P.E., F. IEEE, F. SAE.  He is currently the professor of sustainable energy engineering at Texas A&M University, as well as the holder of the Robert M. Kennedy Endowed Professorship, and various professorships, at Texas A&M University, the University of Hong Kong, and more.

•Qing-Chang Zhong is a distinguished lecturer, a member of the IEEE Power Electronics Society, and the Chair Professor in the Control and Systems Engineering in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield.  His presentation is titled:  Next-Generation Smart Grids:Completely Autonomous Power Systems (CAPS)

•Phrantceena Halres is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Total Protection Services Global, which is the first woman-owned business of its kind.  Her presentation is titled:  Green Vulnerabilities and Avoiding Disaster.

The IEEE Region 5 Leadership Meeting and Student Competitions in Circuit Design, Ethics, Technical Papers, and Robotics will immediately follow the Conference on April 5, 2014.

The Awards Banquet will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2014 and 350 attendees are expected.

The Conference has gained a lot of support from the IEEE Student Branch at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and the IEEE Student Branch at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

It is expected that delegates and student leaders from 27 IEEE Region 5 Sections and 96 IEEE Student Branches from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missiouri, Arkansas, Kansas as well as IEEE R5 Executive Committee Members and leadership, will attend the Conference.

Two-page extended abstracts are currently being accepted.  Those that pass the peer-review process will be published in the IEEEXplore database.
